Evernote – Remember Everything
The Evernote Corporation came up with the Evernote application to meet all your notetaking and archiving needs. The Evernote application puts a powerful means of taking notes at your disposal. You can easily write down your thoughts and ideas, you can take screenshots and add them to your note, you can add images, audio files, or other types of files to your notes. You can install Evernote on a variety of devices and thus have easy access to all your notes.
Speaking about installing Evernote, the application can be installed on Windows, Mac OS X, Android, ChromeOS, iOS, Blackberry, WebOS, and Windows Phone. The installation file for Windows weighs in at 47.7MB. Run it and a standard setup wizard will then guide you through the installation process. With little effort and in little time you will have Evernote up and running on your machine.
To start using Evernote you will have to set up an account first. Just like downloading and installing the application, you will fly through the process of setting up a free account. You need only type in your email address, your username of choice, a password (make sure you pick something that is not easily guessable), and then you must hit the Register button. A few moments later you will be presented with Evernote’s interface.
The multi-tabbed interface Evernote has to offer isn’t difficult to figure out. At the top you have the File Menu and buttons for creating new notes, sharing them, printing and deleting them, and for keeping them in sync. The pane to the left presents info on your account and your shared notes. The pane in the middle presents your notes. And the pane to the right displays a “Welcome to Evernote” message with useful information on how to use the application. When you create your first note, this pane will give you a bit of info about what you can include in a note. This will be the pane where you will create your note and where you will see a selected note (select the note from the pane in the middle, view and edit it in the pane to the right).
To create a new note, hit the “New Note” button or press the Ctrl + Alt + N hotkey. You can write down anything you want in the note. To make part of the text stand out, you can play with the formatting – you can change the font type, size, or color, you can underline text, you can put text in bold, and more. Sometimes text is not enough. If you want to, you can add images, sound, videos, PDF or other types of files to your note.
On top of the “New Note” option, there are three more: New Ink Note (draw what you want on a traditional looking notepad), New Audio Note, and New Webcam Note.
All the notes you create with Evernote can be shared. You can send a note by email to someone, you can post it to Facebook, and you can post it to Twitter.
As mentioned above, you can install Evernote on a variety of devices. The application keeps all your notes in sync. So if you use Evernote on your desktop PC, you will have access to your notes on your Android-powered smartphone. By default Evernote will automatically sync your notes every 30 minutes, in the background. It will also sync changes on exit.
Say you’re writing a note and you want to add what you see on the desktop to it. Evernote comes with a handy screenshot tool that will do just that. Or say you’re browsing the web and come across a webpage that you want to save. You can get the handy web clipper browser extension and save the whole webpage into Evernote. As the amount of notes keeps growing and growing, you can search through them by keyword, tag or printed/handwritten text inside images.
Evernote is just the best notetaking and archiving application.
